About
Formed in Totnes, Devon in 1999, Metronomy started as a bedroom project by Joseph Mount before growing into one of the more distinctive acts in British electronic pop. Their sound moves fluidly across synth pop, indietronica and art pop, and Mount handles the bulk of the writing and production himself, a DIY approach he traces to artists like Prince. The lineup that gave the band its most recognisable shape includes Oscar Cash, drummer Anna Prior and bassist Olugbenga Adelekan, who joined for the third album The English Riviera. That record, along with its singles The Look, The Bay and Everything Goes My Way, marked a real turning point for them. They have since released seven studio albums in total, including Love Letters, which peaked at number 7 on the UK Albums Chart, and Small World in 2022. Mount has also built a serious reputation as a remixer, reworking tracks for Gorillaz, Lady Gaga, Franz Ferdinand and Lykke Li among others.
