Michael Learns to Rock, known to fans as MLTR, are a Danish soft rock band who quietly became one of the most successful acts you've probably never thought of as a global phenomenon. Formed in Aarhus in 1988, the four piece built a massive following across Scandinavia and Asia, shifting over 11 million records. Their song "Take Me to Your Heart" alone racked up more than 6 million paid downloads in 2006, making it the most downloaded single of that year. The band performs entirely in English, and they credit that choice, alongside their clean cut image, as a key part of their appeal in Asian markets. Lead singer and main songwriter Jascha Richter has always pushed back against the idea that the band's sound is rooted in any particular geography, and honestly that stubbornness suits them. The lineup of Richter, guitarist Mikkel Lentz and drummer Kåre Wanscher has been steady for decades, and they have put out nine studio albums in total, with Still arriving in 2018.
