About
Also known as: Miles, Miles Jaye Davis
Miles Jaye had a funny route to R&B stardom: he spent two years as the "Cop" in Village People before going solo. That solo turn paid off fast. His 1987 single "Let's Start Love Over" climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard R&B chart, and the follow up, "I've Been a Fool for You", which he wrote himself, also landed in the top ten. Before all that, he toured Europe with jazz guitarist Eric Gale and singers Phyllis Hyman and Jon Lucien. He is a trained violinist as well as a singer, songwriter and producer, and he helped out on Teddy Pendergrass' 1988 album Joy. After three albums on Island Records, he started his own label, Black Tree Records, and leaned further into jazz, working along the way with George Duke, Roy Ayers, Grover Washington Jr. and Branford Marsalis. Smooth quiet storm ballads with real jazz chops underneath.
