About
Mint Condition are one of those bands that quietly racked up an impressive run of R&B hits while remaining something of an insider secret. The St. Paul, Minnesota group blends funk, jazz, hip hop and soul into a sound that kept them charting through the 1990s at a time when new jack swing was swallowing everything else whole. Their early ballad "Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)" spent 34 weeks on the charts and went gold, and they followed that with gold certified smash "What Kind of Man Would I Be?" which held a spot on the Billboard R&B charts for 41 weeks. They have never really stopped moving. After signing to Elektra and releasing Life's Aquarium in 1999, they launched their own label, Caged Bird Records, and put out Livin' the Luxury Brown in 2005, hitting number one on the Independent Album Charts. Their seventh studio album, 7..., arrived in 2011 to mark their 20th anniversary, and Music at the Speed of Life followed in 2012. That same year they were inducted into the Soul Music Hall of Fame, a nod to a legacy that stretches well beyond what casual R&B fans tend to give them credit for.
