Somewhere between jazz, progressive rock, and chamber music sits Miriodor, a Canadian group that has been part of the Rock in Opposition movement since forming in 1980. Their sound draws comparisons to Univers Zéro and Art Zoyd, and one of their own members once described it as rock oriented postmodern chamber music with a humorous streak. That is a pretty accurate shorthand for a band that never quite fits any one box. Over the decades they have released a string of albums on Cuneiform Records, played major festivals from NEARfest in New Jersey to the Montreal International Jazz Festival, and even scored a documentary for the National Film Board of Canada. Their 2017 album Signal 9 was a heartfelt dedication to co founder François Émond, who passed away that year. Most recently, they put out Elements in 2022 and have been turning up as an opening act for the David Cross Band across Québec.
