About
Rooted in the golden era of Chicago blues, Mississippi Heat has been flying the flag for traditional blues with a genuinely deep bench of talent since forming in 1991. The band is led by harmonica player Pierre Lacocque, whose playing draws directly from giants like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and Junior Wells. That lineage shows up across 12 albums recorded for labels including CrossCut Records and Chicago's Delmark Records, with the band touring across the US, Canada, Europe and beyond. What makes Mississippi Heat more than a nostalgia act is the revolving cast of serious musicians and guest artists they bring in. Vocalists Inetta Visor and Deitra Farr have each left a strong mark on the catalog, and guest spots from Billy Boy Arnold, Lurrie Bell and Carl Weathersby keep things from ever getting stale. Lacocque put it plainly in 2013: they love the traditional Chicago blues sound, but they want to bring something fresh and exciting to it too.
