MJ Lenderman makes the kind of guitar forward indie rock and alternative country that critics trip over themselves to praise. His 2024 album Manning Fireworks landed with serious force, earning an 8.7 from Pitchfork, whose critic called it "witty and sincere, the mark of a songwriter finding his voice." Before that, his 2022 record Boat Songs put him on the map, landing on year end lists at Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and The A.V. Club, and leading to a deal with Anti. Lenderman plays guitar in the indie rock band Wednesday, and his fingerprints are all over Waxahatchee's Tigers Blood too, where he appeared as a featured guest on the lead single "Right Back To It" and performed it live on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He also drummed and played bass throughout the debut album from surprise supergroup Snocaps, fronted by Katie and Allison Crutchfield, which dropped on Halloween 2025. Live, he performs with his backing band the Wind.
