About
Bandung outfit Mocca have been turning out sweetly crafted indie pop and twee pop since the late 1990s, blending jazz and swing influences with a distinctly warm, storytelling approach. Vocalist Arina Ephipania and guitarist Riko Prayitno founded the group after meeting at the National Institute of Technology, and their debut album My Diary became Indonesia's best selling indie album of the 2000s, eventually shifting around 150,000 copies and earning a spot on Rolling Stone Indonesia's list of the 150 Greatest Indonesian Albums of All Time. Their reach has extended well beyond Southeast Asia, with songs popping up on South Korean films and TV shows, and a fanbase spread across Japan, Korea, Taiwan and beyond. Their 2018 album Lima marked a notable shift as the band's first record sung entirely in Indonesian, and a tribute album celebrating their 20th anniversary followed in 2019. The Funfair EP arrived in 2021, keeping the Swinging Friends community well fed.
