Mohini Dey is one of those rare bass players who makes you stop and listen. The Mumbai born musician built her reputation gigging and touring from age 11, eventually landing collaborations with a seriously heavy roster: Steve Vai, Zakir Hussain, Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater, and A. R. Rahman, among others. She also plays in the band MaMoGi alongside drummer Gino Banks. Her self titled debut album arrived in August 2023, giving her a proper showcase after years of lending her talent to other people's projects. She's worked with Willow Smith too, and in 2024 was invited to join Smith's new band. Mentored early on by jazz figure Louis Banks and introduced to touring life through drummer Ranjit Barot, Dey has carved out a distinct space where jazz, jazz fusion, and jazz rock all collide.
