About
Rotterdam based alto saxophonist Femke Mooren plays melodic, narrative compositions with a tone that is clean and warm at the same time. In 2023 she won both the Prinses Christina Jazz Concours and the Women in Jazz Prize, a double that signals just how quickly she has made her mark on the European jazz scene. Her writing has a storytelling quality to it, letting each piece unfold at its own pace rather than chasing flash or complexity for its own sake. A project brought together by the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival paired her with three musicians from the Scottish jazz world, showing that her creative curiosity reaches well beyond the Netherlands.
