About
MOTHERMARY is an electropop duo made up of identical twin sisters Larena and Elyse Winn, based in Los Angeles and signed to the retro electronic label Italians Do It Better. Their sound pulls from darkwave, synthwave, and 1980s synth pop, built around layered synthesizers, drum machines, and the two sisters' tightly woven vocal harmonies. Themes of religion, power, and sexuality run through pretty much everything they do, shaped by their own experience leaving a strict Mormon upbringing. Their debut album I Am Your God dropped in early 2022 and the EP Non Duality followed in 2025. Late 2025 and into 2026 they have been releasing new music including the visualizer for "F**ked Up" and a music video for "For You". They also made headlines when A24 released a trailer for a film called Mother Mary featuring Anne Hathaway as a fictional electropop artist with a strikingly similar name, sound, and gothic religious aesthetic. The duo responded publicly, calling out the overlap with sharp wit rather than silence.
