About
Also known as: Motley Crue, Mötley Crue, モトリー・クルー
With over 100 million records sold worldwide, Mötley Crüe carved out one of the most outrageous careers in hard rock history. The Los Angeles band built its reputation on a combustible mix of glam metal swagger and genuine danger, both onstage and off. Their live shows were spectacles in their own right, featuring flame thrower guitars, roller coaster drum kits, and Nikki Sixx literally being set on fire. Nine Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 chart tell part of the story, but the real landmark is Dr. Feelgood from 1989, the only studio album they ever took to number one. The classic lineup of Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Mick Mars, and vocalist Vince Neil went through serious turbulence over the decades, including Neil's temporary replacement by John Corabi in the 1990s and Lee's exit in 1999. Still, the band kept pulling itself back together. In 2019 they contributed four new tracks to the Netflix biopic The Dirt, based on their own bestselling autobiography, and that soundtrack hit number one on the iTunes All Genres Album Chart. Mars retired from touring in 2022 after 41 years, with John 5 stepping in on guitar.
