About
Also known as: Maia, Maia XMT, mx mt, mxmt
mxmtoon built her fanbase the old fashioned internet way: recording bedroom pop songs on GarageBand, using hair straighteners as percussion, and uploading them quietly to YouTube before anyone in her family even knew. That lo fi, confessional approach paid off fast. Her 2017 collaboration with Peachy, "Falling for U", has racked up over 300 million Spotify streams, and "Prom Dress" from her debut album The Masquerade became a TikTok staple appearing in more than a hundred thousand videos. She has kept her creative output genuinely varied. Beyond releasing the twin EPs Dawn and Dusk, her second album Rising, and her third album Liminal Space in 2024, she voiced protagonist Alex Chen's singing parts in the video game Life Is Strange: True Colors, published two graphic novels, and ran a daily history podcast. She has worked alongside Carly Rae Jepsen, Cavetown, and Chloe Moriondo, and her sound stays rooted in ukulele driven indie pop with lyrics that feel refreshingly unguarded.
