About

Also known as: M.P., Magnified Plaid

MxPx built their reputation on fast, melodic punk rock out of Bremerton, Washington, blending skate punk energy with pop sensibility in a way that landed them on major labels and sent multiple albums onto the Billboard charts. Originally called Magnified Plaid, the four letter name came about almost by accident when drummer Yuri Ruley started using Xs instead of periods on show posters. Their 1998 album Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo went gold and peaked at number 99 on the Billboard 200, while the follow up The Ever Passing Moment produced the radio hit "Responsibility" and earned the band a spot supporting the Offspring and Cypress Hill on tour. They have racked up twelve studio albums across labels including Tooth and Nail, A&M, and SideOneDummy Records, with the 2005 album Panic marking something of a comeback by leaning back into their scrappy punk roots. That record featured Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 on one track and pushed their single "Heard That Sound" onto radio playlists. The band appeared at the When We Were Young festival in 2023, suggesting they still have plenty of pull with the pop punk crowd.
