Nathalie Baartman is a Dutch cabaret performer from Twente who has built up a catalogue of eight theatre shows. Her work sits somewhere between sharp observational comedy and something more personal: she is drawn to themes of human suffering, the natural world and what it means to live an authentic life. Critics have noted her expressive performing style, her talent for imitation and a fondness for near absurdist repetition that steadily wins over an audience. Outlets including de Volkskrant, NRC, Trouw and Theaterkrant have all picked up on her mix of humour and genuine emotional weight. She occasionally performs with a band called De Bössels, the musicians otherwise known as Bakelied, formerly the backing band of Joris Linssen's Caramba. Her stage persona carries a strong sense of Twente identity, though she describes herself as the vegetarian version of a true Tukker. Protest songs, yodelling demonstrations and physically unexpected moments all have a place in her shows.
