About
Nation of Language built their sound around a love of vintage synthesizer music, and it shows. The Brooklyn trio, led by Ian Devaney alongside Aidan Noell and Alex MacKay, make indie pop that pulls from Krautrock, Kraftwerk, and the kind of warmly melodic synth territory that OMD mapped out decades ago. Their 2020 debut Introduction, Presence found a huge new audience during the pandemic, with Billboard calling it "an irresistible confection of familiar and new sounds." They kept the momentum going with A Way Forward in 2021, a record that cemented their place as genuine heavyweights in contemporary synth pop. Their third album Strange Disciple landed in September 2023 and topped Rough Trade's 100 Albums of the Year, beating out everything else released that year. The band's fourth studio album, Dance Called Memory, followed in September 2025.
