About
Also known as: NCT DREAM (엔시티 드림), 엔시티 드림
NCT Dream started out with a built in expiry date: the idea was that members would graduate once they hit adulthood, which made them SM Entertainment's teenage unit of the sprawling NCT project. That system got scrapped in 2020, and the seven member lineup has been fixed ever since. They debuted in 2016 with "Chewing Gum", when the average age in the group was just 15.6. The real breakthrough came with the We Boom EP in 2019, which landed them among the year's top ten physical sellers at home and earned Bonsang awards at the Golden Disc Awards and the Seoul Music Awards. Then came their first studio album, Hot Sauce, in 2021, with pre orders passing 1.71 million copies. It was the best selling album on the Gaon Chart in the first half of that year. Their music tends to dwell on youth, growing up and the slide from innocence into rebellion. They also became the first Asian act on Billboard's 21 Under 21 list three years in a row, and Time put them on its 25 Most Influential Teens list in 2018.
