Few bands can claim to have helped write the rulebook for an entire genre, but New Found Glory from Coral Springs, Florida, are regularly called the godfathers of pop punk for exactly that reason. Forming in 1997, they hit their stride fast: their self titled 2000 major label debut went gold and spent 21 weeks on the Billboard 200, with "Hit or Miss" cracking the top 15 on the Alternative Songs chart. Then Sticks and Stones in 2002 peaked at number four on that same chart and gave the world "My Friends Over You", cementing their place at the front of the scene. AllMusic credits them, alongside Blink 182, as essentially the blueprint for early 2000s pop punk, and Alternative Press has singled out their fusion of punk melodies and hardcore breakdowns as genuinely innovative. That mix of sugar sweet hooks and heavier muscle is what put them at the heart of easycore too. Over a lengthy career they have released fourteen studio albums, proving they are not a nostalgia act but a band that keeps showing up.
