About
NewDad are a Galway outfit who blur the lines between dreamy shoegaze, lo fi indie and something a little more biting. Fronted by vocalist and guitarist Julie Dawson, whose half spoken delivery NME likened to the Cure and Beabadoobee, the band built a serious following through a run of singles in 2020 that racked up over two million Spotify streams before they even had an EP out. Their debut EP Waves landed in 2021, with DIY magazine praising Dawson's "intricate balance of despondency and bite," and the follow up EP Banshee earned a nine out of ten from Gigwise. Their debut album Madra, recorded at Rockfield Studios and mixed by Alan Moulder, came out in early 2024 and landed on NME's list of the ten best debut albums of the year. They have played Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and the Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris, and their second album Altar arrived in September 2025.
