About
Also known as: Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets
Pink Floyd's drummer got tired of feeling like a heritage attraction, so he formed a band to play the songs most fans skipped past. Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets launched in 2018 with a sold out test show at Dingwalls in London, built around the psychedelic early material from the Syd Barrett era. Mason brought in bassist Guy Pratt, guitarists Gary Kemp (of Spandau Ballet) and Lee Harris, and keyboardist Dom Beken. The goal was never a tribute act. They wanted to capture the spirit of the music, not copy it note for note, and they had the blessing of both Gilmour and Waters. The name comes from Pink Floyd's second album. After a European tour in 2018 and a North American run in 2019, they put out Live at the Roundhouse in 2020, a live album and film. Roger Waters even turned up at the Beacon Theatre in New York one night to sing Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. The band wrapped up with a final tour in 2024.
