About
Nilüfer Yanya turned down a slot in a Louis Tomlinson produced girl group early on, which tells you pretty much everything about her priorities. The London based singer and guitarist has carved out a genuinely distinctive space in indie rock, with a sound that pulls from soul, jazz, and trip hop as freely as it does from guitar driven alt rock. Her 2019 debut album Miss Universe drew serious critical attention for the way she could shift mid song from cool detachment to something close to panic, and her voice was described by Stereogum as "malleable and endlessly expressive." She followed it up with Painless in 2022 and My Method Actor in 2024, with recent audio uploads suggesting the latter is still very much in rotation. She has shared stages with Adele and Roxy Music, and featured on Bombay Bicycle Club's 2023 album My Big Day.
