About
Also known as: Иван Александрович Алексеев, Нойз МС
Noize MC, the stage name of Ivan Alekseyev from Yartsevo, Russia, has built a reputation as one of the more fearless voices in Russian hip hop and alternative rock, blending the two genres in ways that have earned him a serious following well beyond the underground. His freestyle skills were sharp enough to beat American rapper Young MC in a battle at a major Russian street culture festival, and that competitive edge translated into a signing with Universal Music Group's Russian subsidiary, a deal that hip hop commentators called a landmark moment for the scene. Beyond music, he has shown a willingness to wade into controversy. After a Lukoil executive's car killed two women in a Moscow traffic incident and authorities let the executive off the hook, Noize MC wrote and released the protest rap 'Mercedes S666' within 24 hours. The track went viral and became a symbol of public anger at elite impunity. He has also worked as an actor, starring in the film Rozygrysh and composing its soundtrack.
