NOM

About

NOM came out of the Leningrad rock scene in the late 1980s and never really tried to fit in with it. While most bands around them played at being serious rock heroes, NOM went the other way, summing up their approach as making the dramatic parts of life idiotic and the idiotic parts dramatic. The result is a mix of music, theatre, absurdity and satire that doesn't sound like anyone else. Musically they roam freely, from garage rock to electronics to something close to comic opera, and they're happy to set classical Russian poetry next to absurd material of their own invention. Critics once labelled them the last bastion of merciless satire. Bassist Andrey Kagadeyev founded the band, and the current line up also features guitarist Alexei Zubkov and vocalist Pavel Korshunov.
