Few pop acts from the former Yugoslavia left as deep a mark as Novi Fosili, a Zagreb group that spent the late 1970s and 1980s cranking out hook laden sing along hits that earned them regular comparisons to ABBA. Songs like "Plava košulja", "Tonka" and "E, moj Saša" were among the biggest hits in Yugoslavia that decade, and their 1981 album Budi uvijek blizu moved over 712,000 copies, making it one of the best selling records the country ever produced. Across their career they put out 29 albums in total, 16 of them studio records, which collectively sold millions of copies across the region. A big part of their sound was shaped by Rajko Dujmić, the primary songwriter behind their string of hits. The band also represented Yugoslavia at the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing fourth, and their music still gets regular airplay on Croatian radio today.
