Ocean Alley have carved out a sound that sits somewhere between cruisy psych rock, reggae and laid back riffs, and Australian listeners have taken serious notice. The Sydney band scored one of the biggest moments in the country's music calendar when their track "Confidence" topped the triple j Hottest 100 in 2019, beating out everything else that year. That same poll featured three more of their songs, which is no small feat for an independent act. Their second album Chiaroscuro debuted at number 15 on the ARIA Albums Chart, and their third record Lonely Diamond went even further, peaking at number 3. The band has been quietly relentless since forming on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, touring Australia extensively in their own four wheel drive before eventually playing 40 shows across Europe. Their fourth album Low Altitude Living, described by the band themselves as more fun and playful, landed in late 2022. More recently, their 2024 track "Tangerine" placed at number 15 in that year's Hottest 100, showing they have no intention of fading into the background.
