Ocean Colour Scene built their name during the Britpop boom of the mid 1990s, when their second album Moseley Shoals hit No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart and turned them into one of the defining guitar bands of the era. Rooted in Moseley, Birmingham, their sound pulls from mod revival, neo psychedelia and classic British rock, and the connection to Paul Weller and Oasis was no accident: Weller brought them in as support early on, while Noel Gallagher championed them so loudly that labels came calling. Their third album, Marchin' Already, knocked Oasis off the No. 1 spot in 1997, a detail that says plenty about where they stood at their peak. Over the years OCS kept putting records out at a steady pace, racking up five top 10 albums in total and seventeen top 40 singles. Even after the Britpop tide went out, they carried on touring and releasing material, including a run of live albums and the 2013 studio album Painting. They have also revisited classic material, putting out anniversary editions of Moseley Shoals and Marchin' Already for fans who have stuck around since the beginning.
