Omasta

About

Omasta is a Krakow band that plays jazz with a hip hop pulse. Their sound is built on thick drums and deep, heavy bass, with piano, trumpet, saxophone and flute weaving melodies over the top. The name comes from a regional Krakow dialect word for fat added to food for flavour, which suits music this rich and saturated. The band officially launched in February 2024 with a tribute to J Dilla at Paul's Boutique in Krakow. Since then they have played around Poland and across Europe, including the London Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott's and The Jazz Cafe. Along the way they have worked with Madlib, Aquiles Navarro, Marysia Osu, Tenderlonious and Polish free jazz veteran Leszek Żądło. Their debut album, Jazz Report From The Hood, came out on Astigmatic Records and plays like a raw, groove driven soundtrack to city life.
