About
Also known as: 0PN, OPN
Daniel Lopatin, recording as Oneohtrix Point Never (or OPN), has spent two decades building one of the most restless and unpredictable bodies of work in electronic music. His sound pulls from arpeggiated synth music of the 1970s and 80s, noise, new age, glitch, and art pop, often anchored by sample based composition and intricate MIDI production. The 2009 compilation Rifts put him on the map, and his pseudonymous cassette Chuck Person's Eccojams Vol. 1 practically helped birth the entire vaporwave genre. Signing with Warp Records in 2013 pushed him into wider view, and his work has since expanded well beyond solo records. He has contributed production to artists like the Weeknd, Moses Sumney, and Soccer Mommy, and built a parallel career composing film scores. His collaborations with directors the Safdie brothers on Good Time and Uncut Gems are particularly notable, with Good Time earning him the Soundtrack Award at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. More recently, he has also worked with ROSALÍA, releasing the track Nothing's Special in 2021.
