About
Orla Gartland built a genuine following the slow, honest way: years of YouTube covers and originals out of Dublin before she ever had a label behind her. That grind paid off with her debut album Woman on the Internet, released independently through her own imprint New Friends in 2021. It hit number 3 on the Irish album chart and number 10 on the UK Albums Chart, which is a serious result for a self run operation. The record was co produced with long term collaborator Tom Stafford and recorded at Middle Farm Studios in Devon, with her live band in the room for the first time. Her songwriting tends to orbit identity, relationships and the messy business of figuring yourself out, and she has a knack for landing those themes in genuinely catchy indie pop. "Why Am I Like This?" got a second life when it appeared in the 2022 Netflix adaptation of Heartstopper, reaching number 4 on the Billboard Top TV Songs chart years after its original release. Her second album Everybody Needs a Hero followed in October 2024.
