About

Ottavio Dantone has spent decades making Baroque music feel urgent and alive again. The Italian conductor and harpsichordist has led the Accademia Bizantina in Ravenna since 1996, building it into one of the go to ensembles for period performance. His opera conducting career got off to a striking start in 1999 when he revived Giuseppe Sarti's Giulio Sabino at the Teatro Alighieri, its first staging in modern times. He later brought Handel's Rinaldo to La Scala in 2005 and to Glyndebourne in 2011. His discography runs deep into Vivaldi and Handel operas, concerti grossi from Corelli and Geminiani, and more recently a Schumann and Mendelssohn programme that shows his range extending well beyond the Baroque. Since 2024 he has also served as music director of the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik.
