About
Accademia Bizantina is a baroque ensemble from Ravenna, Italy, led by conductor and early music specialist Ottavio Dantone, who is also regarded as a Vivaldi expert. The group works across the baroque repertoire, including opera, and has performed works by composers such as Vivaldi, Hasse, Pergolesi and Handel. One notable project brought them to Vivaldi's final opera, Rosmira fedele, composed in 1738. That work is unusual in that Vivaldi built it largely from arias by other composers, reworking the material into his own style. Accademia Bizantina performed it alongside a vocal cast that included mezzo soprano Sophie Rennert and alto Delphine Galou.
