P.O.D., short for Payable on Death, built their name on a sound that blurred the lines between nu metal, rap rock and Christian faith, eventually selling over 12 million records worldwide. Out of San Diego, the four piece of Sonny Sandoval, Traa Daniels, Marcos Curiel and Wuv Bernardo broke into the mainstream with The Fundamental Elements of Southtown, which went platinum on the back of MTV hits like "Rock the Party (Off the Hook)". Their follow up, Satellite, released on September 11, 2001, turned out to be their biggest moment yet, going triple platinum behind singles "Alive" and "Youth of the Nation", both of which earned Grammy nominations for Best Hard Rock Performance. Three Grammy nominations in total, contributions to soundtracks including The Matrix Reloaded, and a song referenced in the Kevin James comedy Here Comes the Boom give a sense of how far their reach extended. The band has never quite stayed in one sonic lane, shifting from rapcore to darker melodic territory on later records, but the San Diego spirit and the faith at their core have remained consistent throughout.
