About
Paddy and the Rats are a Celtic punk band out of Miskolc, Hungary, blending Irish and Celtic folk with punk rock, sea shanties, and touches of Russian, Romani and polka flavour. Since forming in 2008, they have built a serious catalogue, starting with the debut Itz Only Pub 'n Roll, But I Like It and hitting early international attention with Rats on Board, which landed second place in a Celtic rock album of the year poll and made them the most downloaded Hungarian act on iTunes that year. Over the years they have kept pushing their sound in new directions. The 2015 record Lonely Hearts' Boulevard went darker and more experimental, while 2017's Riot City Outlaws was produced by Cameron Webb, the man behind albums for Motörhead, NOFX and Weezer. After signing to Napalm Records in 2018, the band faced a tough loss when accordionist Bernie Bellamy passed away on January 1, 2022. They paid tribute with the track After The Rain, the last song he worked on before his death. Their eighth studio album Lord of the Drinks arrived in 2024 on Nordic Records.
