Pagan's Mind have been flying the flag for Norwegian progressive metal since 2000, blending the muscle of power metal with the complexity and cosmic ambition that defines the genre's best. The band drew early inspiration from the Stargate film, and that sense of otherworldly scale runs through albums like Celestial Entrance, which broke them outside Norway, and Enigmatic: Calling, which cracked the Norwegian album chart at number 15. Their fifth studio record, Heavenly Ecstasy, dropped on SPV/Steamhammer in 2011, and a crowdfunded live release, Full Circle: Live at Center Stage, followed in 2015. Guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad has kept busy on the side, co creating the hard rock project Northward with Floor Jansen, while vocalist Nils K. Rue appeared on the Ayreon album The Source. After a spell of inactivity caused by health issues, the full original lineup regrouped and has been piecing together what may be a new studio album.
