Pallas are a Scottish progressive rock band from Aberdeen who were right at the front of the neo prog wave that swept the UK in the early 1980s, alongside acts like Marillion and IQ. Their early live shows were famously theatrical, complete with Peter Gabriel vocal impressions, Rick Wakeman style capes, and a fifteen minute stage epic about murder and insanity that got them threatened with a ban from London's Marquee Club. Their debut album The Sentinel, recorded with Yes and ELP engineer Eddy Offord, was built around an ambitious Atlantis themed concept suite. A second EMI album, The Wedge, sold well in Europe before the label pulled support almost overnight. After years of semi dormancy, Pallas came back with Beat the Drum in 1999 and kept steadily releasing records through the 2000s, including the concept album The Cross and the Crucible and The Dreams of Men. The German independent label InsideOut kept them going through that stretch, and the band built a loyal following especially across Northern Europe. Long serving frontman Alan Reed left in 2010 after 26 years, replaced by Paul Mackie. Their track Violet Sky surfaced in late 2021, showing the band is still very much active.
