About
Pallbearer have spent well over a decade quietly rewriting what doom metal can be. Formed in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2008, the band made an immediate mark with their 2012 debut Sorrow and Extinction, which landed Best New Music from Pitchfork and praise from NPR and Spin. Their follow up, Foundations of Burden, topped Decibel magazine's Album of the Year list and earned another Pitchfork nod. By the time Heartless arrived in 2017, Pallbearer had pulled in influences from classic rock, grunge, and prog, drawing comparisons to Pink Floyd and The Smashing Pumpkins. The New York Times Magazine called them "one of the most resonant emotional campaigns in American rock music." Forgotten Days kept the momentum going in 2020, and their fifth album Mind Burns Alive, released in 2024, was met with widespread critical acclaim. They have consistently grown without losing the emotional weight that made people pay attention in the first place.
