About
Also known as: Parkay Quarts
Parquet Courts have a habit of sneaking out records under other names, and one of those aliases, Parkay Quarts, even landed an EP on the US Heat chart. The Brooklyn band, built around Andrew Savage, Austin Brown, Sean Yeaton and drummer Max Savage, blends indie rock, post punk and a scrappy art punk streak. Light Up Gold, first put out on Savage's own Dull Tools label, became the record that got people talking, and Sunbathing Animal later cracked the UK albums chart. They keep things restless. There was an instrumental, experimental EP called Monastic Living, a collaboration LP with PC Worship, and Milano, made with Daniele Luppi and featuring Karen O. Wide Awake! in 2018 was named album of the year by Australian station Double J, and its title track ended up in a football video game. Sympathy for Life followed in 2021, and the band is now on hiatus, though they insist they haven't split.
