About
Nick Cave once called Party Dozen "a force of nature", and it's easy to hear why. This Sydney duo, saxophonist Kirsty Tickle and drummer Jonathan Boulet, make a big, abrasive noise rock racket out of just sax, drums and electronics, building songs from loops and live takes with barely any overdubs. Tickle runs her sax through a growing pedalboard of effects while Boulet handles recording, mixing and mastering himself. They run their own label, Grupo, and have four albums to their name: The Living Man, Pray for Party Dozen, The Real Work and Crime in Australia. The Real Work is the one that pushed them overseas, partly thanks to "Macca the Mutt", where Cave dropped in an improvised vocal that the band kept untouched. Their latest, Crime in Australia, was conceived as the soundtrack to an imaginary Australian crime film, soaked in the mood of Chopper, Wake in Fright and Mr Inbetween.
