About
Pearl & the Oysters is a French American indie pop duo made up of Juliette Pearl Davis and Joachim Polack, and their sound is something of a time machine built from synth pop, dream pop, soft rock, and a genuine love of Burt Bacharach and Bossa Nova. They met in Paris and eventually planted roots in Gainesville, Florida before moving to Los Angeles, and that transatlantic background seeps into everything they make. Polack brings serious musicological chops to the production, having studied Brazilian popular music at the University of Florida, and it shows in the lush, layered arrangements. Since their self titled 2017 debut they have put out a steady run of records, including Flowerland, Coast 2 Coast, and Planet Pearl in 2024. They have worked with Lætitia Sadier of Stereolab and Riley Geare of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and released music on Stones Throw Records. Recent videos for tracks like Side Quest and Fireflies suggest the duo is as prolific as ever, keeping that dreamy, retro touched warmth at the core of everything they do.
