Peyman Yazdanian is an Iranian pianist and composer whose work sits at the crossroads of Western classical traditions and Persian musical sensibility. He is probably best known internationally for his film scores, having contributed music to films by two of Iranian cinema's most celebrated directors, Abbas Kiarostami and Asghar Farhadi. Beyond film, his output spans contemporary classical compositions that draw on both traditions with equal fluency. Live, Yazdanian has performed alongside musicians playing traditional Persian instruments such as the kamancheh and tonbak, giving his concerts a chamber quality that feels rooted in both worlds at once. His work scoring silent films, bringing new music to images that are a century old, is a particularly striking part of what he does.
