Pianos Become the Teeth built their reputation on raw, emotionally intense post hardcore that drew comparisons to post rock giants like Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai, while sitting firmly in the same scene as Touché Amoré and La Dispute. Their 2009 debut Old Pride, reissued through Topshelf Records in 2010, earned strong praise from Rock Sound and Alternative Press for its mix of cathartic intensity and unexpected tenderness. Their 2011 follow up The Lack Long After went even darker, functioning as a concept album around vocalist Kyle Durfey's deeply personal lyrics about his father's battle with multiple sclerosis. Signing to Epitaph Records in 2014 marked a real shift in sound. Keep You stripped out the screamed vocals entirely, moving toward something more restrained, and producer Will Yip helped shape that cleaner direction. They've kept evolving since, releasing Wait for Love in 2018 and their fifth studio album Drift in 2022, both through Epitaph.
