Somewhere between Frank Zappa and Fred Frith, Pierre Vervloesem occupies a very particular corner of the Belgian music scene. The Waregem born guitarist and producer has built a reputation for restlessly experimental work, from his years with avant garde collective X Legged Sally through to a sprawling solo discography that takes in free jazz, electroacoustic noise, progressive rock, and whatever else he feels like that week. He also co produced the debut LP by dEUS, one of the most important Belgian rock records of the nineties, alongside longtime collaborator Peter Vermeersch. His guitar playing gets compared to Nick Didkovsky, Nels Cline, Joe Satriani, and Steve Vai all in the same breath, which tells you something about how hard he is to pin down. The discography is enormous and keeps growing, with releases appearing under his own name and through various projects including Kings of Belgium, Caca, Codswallop, Orchestra Exotica, and many more. Productivity is clearly not his problem.
