Plini is a Sydney based guitarist who writes, produces, arranges and mixes everything himself, giving his instrumental progressive metal a distinctly personal stamp. His debut full length, Handmade Cities, drew serious attention, with Steve Vai calling it one of the finest forward thinking melodic instrumental guitar records he had ever heard. The album also landed Plini in an unexpected controversy when Doja Cat's 2020 metal rework of her single Say So, performed at the MTV Europe Music Awards, was accused of lifting the guitar rhythm from the Handmade Cities title track. Plini later shared that Doja Cat reached out with an apology, though he was candid that the lack of credit before millions of views had already rolled in was disappointing.
