Ted Horowitz, better known as Popa Chubby, has been one of the more hard working figures in blues rock for decades, at one point logging over 200 club dates a year throughout the 1990s. His big break came after winning a national blues talent search on public radio, which landed him an opening slot at the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1992. From there he signed with Sony Music and released his first major label album Booty and the Beast in 1995, produced by legendary Atlantic Records engineer Tom Dowd, the man behind sessions with Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles. His catalog is enormous and restless, ranging from straight up blues to hip hop tinged detours and even a country record with his ex wife Galea. In 2025 he put out a tribute to Freddie King on Gulf Coast Records, pulling in guests like Joe Bonamassa, Eric Gales and Christone Kingfish Ingram. Eagletone even released a Popa Chubby signature Stratocaster modeled after his 1966 guitar, which says a lot about the cult following he has built over the years.
