About

Pram have always been a bit of an outlier. The Birmingham group built their sound around an unlikely collection of instruments including theremins, toy pianos, zithers, glass hammers and Hawaiian bubble machines, and the result is something AllMusic once described as "equally quaint and unsettling." Their music pulls in krautrock, exotica, dub and post rock without sitting comfortably in any of those boxes, and the band have been pretty upfront about rejecting genre labels anyway. Signing to Too Pure in 1993 alongside Stereolab and PJ Harvey, they released a string of increasingly adventurous records through the nineties, from their debut The Stars Are So Big, The Earth Is So Small... Stay as You Are to Sargasso Sea, which scored a legendary 0 out of 10 from NME, a review the band took as a compliment. After a long hiatus following 2007's The Moving Frontier, they came back in 2018 with Across the Meridian.
