Quannnic started out riding the digicore wave before deciding that sound was too limiting and pivoting hard into shoegaze territory. That shift paid off in a big way when their 2022 debut album Kenopsia caught a second wind on TikTok, with the track "Life Imitates Life" racking up 30 million Spotify streams and landing at number 23 on Billboard's Hot Hard Rock Songs. Quannnic themselves found the sudden attention strange, admitting it made the whole process more stressful. Their second album Stepdream arrived in late 2023, drawing comparisons to Elliott Smith and Jeff Buckley and showing a more singer songwriter leaning side. Between tours supporting Slowdive and co headlining with Jane Remover, Quannnic has kept busy. Critics at Pitchfork, Stereogum and The Fader have all taken note, describing a sound that layers Auto Tune and glitchy bedroom electronics over honest to goodness guitar work. Their third album Warbrained followed in 2025.
