Raquel Tavares is one of the standout voices of fado's new generation, a Lisbon singer who built her reputation performing at Bacalhau de Molho, one of the city's most beloved fado houses. She won the prestigious Grande Noite do Fado contest and took home the Amália Rodrigues Revelation Prize in 2006, the same year her debut album dropped. Her second album, Bairro, followed in 2008, and she kept performing across Europe, from Paris to Rome to Madrid. She even made a brief acting appearance in Mário Barroso's 2004 film O Milagre Segundo Salomé, playing a fado singer. In 2016 she returned with the album Raquel on Sony Music, before stepping away from the stage in January 2020 to pursue a quieter life.
