About
Few bands can claim they took a young Metallica out on the road, but Raven did exactly that on the legendary "Kill 'em All for One" tour in 1983, headlining what became Metallica's first ever national tour. The Newcastle heavy metal outfit, built around brothers John and Mark Gallagher, had already been turning heads in the NWOBHM scene with bruising albums like Rock Until You Drop and Wiped Out, the latter sneaking into the UK Albums Chart and helping lay groundwork for the entire thrash metal genre. Bands from Metallica and Slayer all the way to Testament and Kreator have cited them as an influence. Their wild live show, complete with hockey gear and sports equipment used as percussion, earned them the nickname "athletic rock" and set them apart from the pack. Atlantic Records came calling, and 1985's Stay Hard gave them a genuine hit with "On and On". After some label friction and lineup shifts, Raven kept grinding through Europe and Japan long after many of their peers had packed it in, adding to a catalog that now stretches to fifteen studio albums.
