Ray LaMontagne has a voice that critics have likened to Otis Redding and Van Morrison, a raw, hushed rasp that sits at the heart of everything he does. The New Hampshire native built his folk and soul sound across a string of well regarded records, starting with the debut Trouble in 2004, which sold over 250,000 copies in the US alone. That album featured Jennifer Stills, daughter of Stephen Stills, the very artist whose song first convinced LaMontagne to quit his day job and pick up a guitar. His third album Gossip in the Grain debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard charts, while God Willin' and the Creek Don't Rise, which he produced himself, landed him a Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album. He shifted gears noticeably with Supernova in 2014, enlisting Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach to produce a record that shot to No. 1 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart. His most recent album, Long Way Home, came out in 2024.
