Few songs are as instantly recognizable as the Ghostbusters theme, and Ray Parker Jr. is the man behind it. The Detroit born guitarist, singer and songwriter wrote and recorded that 1984 earworm for the blockbuster film, and it hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks straight. Before that, he had already built a serious reputation as a session guitarist, playing alongside Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan and a long list of others before most people knew his name. Parker's band Raydio gave him his first taste of chart success in the late 1970s with hits like Jack and Jill and You Can't Change That, both Top 10 entries on the Billboard Hot 100. Going solo in the early 80s only sharpened his run, with The Other Woman reaching number four on the pop chart in 1982. He has also worn the producer hat throughout his career, working with artists like New Edition and Cheryl Lynn, and he owns his own recording studio in Los Angeles.
